2nd Semester - 8th Grade

After Christmas break came finals - a horrifying experience for the parents; less so for Dylan. And, the results - not great for the finals but passing. The grades: much better than the finals. The conclusion: we need to find new accommodations for test taking - the results don't match the classwork or the effort exerted.

Graduation Day

So Dylan crosses the green @ 10am this morning to the upper school - high school. In his hand he carries a Silver Scholastic achievement award signed by the President and the outstanding artist award for 7th grade (no surprise there). Mom & I sit in the audience amazed at his accomplishments despite some real personal challenges. Yes, we're so, so, so proud of him. All of the pictures reflect a happy, well adjusted 13 yr. Old skinny kid who loves his friends and his awesome teachers and administrators (he's been blessed). This is truly a day all of us will never forget.

Herocon 2011 Aftermath

We returned home safe and sound with no traffic delays in just under 5 hours door-to-door pulling into home just before 9pm. Dylan and I agreed the trip was a complete success and we're already planning for a little longer trip next June.

Makin' great time. Rest stop on the East side of Greensboro. Interstate is loaded with "unmarked" Suburbans. Deadly but we have cruise control.
Left charlotte at 4 pm
Attending a workshop re: Making Maquettes. A little like art class though the spud is relatively engaged. Two more seminars then on the road. Comics Goes to the Movies then Costuming.
2 hrs on the convention floor & finally sitting down. Dylan spoke to Tim Sales (his favorite) & got a great autograph. Sales told him HE started seriously drawing @ 13 & loved his Speedy costume. The entire convention has given him AAA for creativity.
